Attractions
on Peter Island
Peter
Island makes up the south and westernmost
islands along the south edge of the Sir Francis Drake channel, together
with petite Pelican Island and Norman Island. Peter Island has the luxurious
Peter Island Resort, with shops and a restaurant, and is open to the
public. This privately owned island resort is accessible by water only.
It is a great place to stay with its excellent sporting facilities.
Tennis, sailing, and diving are all available, and five miles of secluded
beaches are there for those who only want to live in the sun.
The
sailing is spectacular and just a short hop from anchorage to anchorage.
The Caves and The Indians are two of the most delightful, underwater
aquatic refuges and are perfect for all levels of snorkeling. Undeveloped,
except for the resort, there are some roads which are perfect for a
good hike across the island.
Peter
Island has two anchorages on the protected north side, Great Harbour,
(also home to the Peter Island Yacht Harbour, where you will find overnight
slips available as well as moorings), and Little Harbour, just to the
west. White Bay, on Peter Island, is a good, day anchorage. There are
several small, yet lovely, beaches on Peter Island. White Bay, on the
more remote south side of Peter, Deadman's Bay, and Great Harbour.
